NEVER STOP FIGHTING FOR FAIRNESS

With a legacy gift to Oxfam Ireland

the past & future impact of oxfam's legacy

The Oxford Committee for Famine Relief raises funds for war refugees and lobbies the British government to allow vital food and medical supplies through a blockade and into Greece.

By the 60's, The Beatles were joining the fight, supporting Oxfam's Freedom from Hunger Campaign for the Congo during World Refugee Year. It was also the year that the Bewley family, known for their cafés, became Oxfam supporters, helping to launch a wave of support across Ireland.

Oxfam's first shop in Ireland opens on South King Street in Dublin. The following year Oxfam Ireland officially comes into being and an RTÉ radio appeal for Ethiopia raises €10,000.

We all remember Mary Robinson becoming the first female president of Ireland, a hugely important social and political milestone. But her appointment as Honorary President of Oxfam after she finished her term marked an equally important milestone for us.

From raising a staggering €1.6 million to help survivors of the Indian Ocean tsunami in 2004 to supporting the introduction of new farming techniques to bring food security in Timor Leste, supporters help Oxfam Ireland’s humanitarian response and fight against poverty.

Oxfam Ireland turns 50- marking five decades of impact, including a major response to the growing humanitarian crisis in Gaza. Working through local partners, by the end of 2024 we’ve helped over 73,000 people with their most urgent needs - and the work continues…

Some people see injustice and think, "That's not right. Someone should do something about it."

Other people, people like you, take action. You are the someone who does something.

Chances are, you've been doing it - fighting for the underdog, campaigning for justice, supporting causes that make a difference - all your life. And the wonderful truth is, you don't have to stop.

With a gift to Oxfam in your Will, you never have to stop fighting for fairness, you and your enduring values can live for eternity through the lives of the generations of people you free from injustice, inequality and poverty.

After everything you've experienced and accomplished in life, what do you leave behind? After helping your family and your loved ones, what will you leave to posterity, to the greater good... to the world?

Today, more and more compassionate people like you are showing their commitment to fighting climate injustice by leaving gifts in their Wills to Oxfam.

Thanks to a gift left by someone like you in their Will, people in communities like Catherine Bahati's in Eastern Kenya no longer go to bed every night wondering whether they will spend tomorrow thirsty. Instead they know they will have safe, clean water for their own, and for future generations too.

Thanks to a gift left in a Will by someone like you, people like Abdia Ibrahim and her family in Isiolo County, no longer have to ration water just to get through the day. Where drought once dried up every well and claimed nearly all her livestock, a new water point set up by one of Oxfam's partners has brought lasting change. Today, Abdia can safely bathe her children and cook without fear of illness.

You, your beliefs and the values you pass on, will create a better world for those fighting injustice and poverty. A fairer world.

never stop fighting...
