OXFAM IRELAND FIELD REPORt
How your support is changing lives in Palestine, Lebanon, South Sudan, Malawi, and beyond.

Thanks to your kindness in 2024, Oxfam and its partners were able to respond to crises worldwide. We worked with those most affected, empowering local voices to lead and challenge the injustices that keep people in poverty.
This update highlights the critical work you make possible.
Your support is vital for those affected by conflict in the Middle East
Occupied Palestinian Territories
Oxfam believes Israel has carried out ethnic cleansing in North Gaza. We have seen targeted deprivation, lack of humanitarian aid, and forced displacement. Water and sanitation structures have been destroyed leading to widespread health crises.
Starvation and malnutrition have spread widely through Gaza.
Wafaa is 32 years old and the mother of four small children. The family fled Khan Younis to Mawasi Rafah. Now, their home is a tent.
“We hope for a permanent ceasefire. It would be the greatest joy of our lives.”
She fears leaving her children alone for even a moment. The tent is scorching in the summer and freezing in the winter. Insects swarm and bite. And sanitation is impossible.
But your generosity is helping!
“Oxfam came, saw our situation, and asked us what we were lacking,” she says.
“Oxfam provided us with bathrooms and distributed them according to the needs in the area. They supplied us with water tanks for the whole camp. They met a significant part of the camp’s needs.”

You are helping families rebuild their future after being displaced from violence.
Lebanon
In November, a fragile ceasefire was declared between Israel and Lebanon. People celebrated in the streets and began returning home.
But when they returned, their towns were in ruins. In the meantime, winter magnifies every challenge people face: bitter cold, a lack of running water and electricity, and structural damage making their homes dangerous.
"We started hearing the airstrikes getting closer and closer."
Siham is 33 years old. Last September, her home in South Lebanon was hit. Siham and a group of seven people, including her husband and two daughters, had to flee north.
“It’s nothing less than a miracle that I can still hold my children. Anyone who sees how my house was destroyed, levelled to the ground, would say we could never have made it out alive.”
During the airstrike, Siham sustained injuries to her hand, neck, and eye. She received medical support in North Lebanon, where her family stayed in a collective shelter for displaced people.
Now she is struggling to cope with her trauma and eye injury. She worries about losing her sight permanently.
Siham’s family is one of thousands who fled the conflict and are now returning home. As they return, they will still need our help.

How you’re helping people seeking safety
Sudan and South Sudan
In April 2023, war erupted in Sudan, displacing thousands to Renk, South Sudan. The transit centres quickly became overcrowded, resources strained, and flooding worsened the situation. In October, a cholera outbreak was declared, adding to the crisis.
Asia dreams of becoming a doctor
At just 14, Asia dreams of becoming a doctor despite losing her home and school in Khartoum. Living in a transit centre, she clings to hope, teaching herself English and holding on to her love for learning.
“I want to take diseases away from people,”
Asia holds onto her dream, her unwavering desire to serve humanity. Despite her hardships, there's no bitterness in her heart. Her only wish is for a world where everyone can live in peace and harmony.
Your support provides vital assistance to refugees like Asia
This is the story of countless others who have been impacted by conflict and displacement.
Your support empowers Oxfam Ireland to provide vital assistance to refugees like Asia, ensuring they have access to education, healthcare, and the opportunity to rebuild their lives.

You’re fighting climate change, drought, and dangerous illnesses
Malawi
Extreme weather events have become increasingly common in Malawi. These disasters significantly impact communities, particularly small-scale farmers who rely on predictable weather patterns for their crops and livestock, leading to increased food insecurity.
Elizabeth is a mother of five. She and her husband rely on farming, mat making, and “Ganu” a form of short-term, manual labour to survive. The Ganu work is unsteady and poorly paid. Then the El Niño season that began in November 2023 created dry conditions and less rainfall than usual.
Typically, the family could expect their field to yield around 17 buckets of maize. This year, they were able to harvest only one and half buckets. They survive day to day, often going hungry.
Elizabeth explains life as surviving day to day. On the day she received her cash-based food assistance, all she had was a tiny bit of flour to feed her children.
With you at our side, we can deliver more help.
“It’s like a dream,” she says. She plans to use some of the funds to buy maize and manure for the next planting season, hoping for better yields in the future.

Your generosity gives people in Malawi hope for the future.
Your support has provided

Together, We Make a Difference
Your generosity fuels hope and resilience worldwide. Please give today to continue this vital work.

It's a simple, but painful truth.
Too many people around the world are suffering. From conflict, earthquakes and drought, from desperate poverty and inequality. But there's another truth: wonderful people, like you, care. And your care means everything.
Because of you, Oxfam Ireland can help provide shelter, food, and clean water to people who don't even have those basics. And we can work toward solutions that not only help in the moment, but that change the systems and structures that lead to so much pain.
Thank you for your kindness and for your support of Oxfam Ireland. We're proud to work with you to help the people who need us the most around the world.
Help us make an even bigger impact.
